Counseling FAQ:

School counselors are certified/licensed educators who improve student success for ALL students by implementing a comprehensive school counseling program in the domains of academics, college/career readiness, and social emotional learning.  We help students with schedules and academic supports, plan for post-secondary education and employment, and navigate social and emotional issues or concerns.

School counselors design and deliver school counseling programs that improve student outcomes. We lead, advocate, and collaborate to promote equity and access for all students by connecting our school counseling program to the CHS’s Vision of the Graduate. We uphold the ethical and professional standards of the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) and promote the development of the school counseling program based on the Connecticut Comprehensive School Counseling Framework (CCSCF) and ASCA National Model.

For current students: Transcript requests for college applications are done in SchooLinks and submitted to colleges electronically.  If a student needs a paper transcript for another reason (NCAA, scholarships, insurance, etc.), they can visit the Transcript Office in the School Counseling Suite to make a request.  All transcripts are free for current students.

For alumni: Past Graduates who need a copy of their transcript (paper or electronic) should complete this form.  There is a $5 charge for each alumni transcript.

Mission Statement

Cheshire school counselors provide a planned, sequential program of guidance and counseling services based upon a student’s developmental and individual needs. The program is founded on the premise that individuals experience general stages of personal growth and development as they progress from childhood to adulthood ad, therefore, require support and understanding as they progress through these stages.

The guidance and counseling program is student centered, benefiting each child throughout all aspects and stages of his/her school career. Interventions are both proactive and reactive and encourage individuals to participate in their own development. Interventions include individual, small group, and classroom activities, individual planning, supportive and responsive services.

The Cheshire High School Counseling Department recognizes that in order to provide the most comprehensive guidance and counseling program, collaboration with other school personnel, school programs, and the community is essential.
