School Nurses

Cheshire Public School Nurses offer the following services besides emergency First Aid, throughout the school year:

    • Vision Screening Grades K-9 Excluding grade 7
    • Hearing Screening Grades K-11 Excluding grades 7 and 10
    • Scoliosis Screening Grades 5 – 9
    • Continual health teaching, consulting and counseling
    • Medication administration per doctor’s order
    • Food, bee, latex allergy
    • Ongoing education with staff, students and family
    • Assist families with appropriate medical care
    • Involved with care of medically complex students


    • Complete physical examinations by a medical doctor are State required for students entering Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten, and Grades 7 and 10. These physical examinations also include complete immunization requirements according to age/grade level. All physical examination forms must be returned to the school nurse prior to the student’s entry.
    • All NEW students entering the Cheshire Public Schools from out-of-state or country are also required to have a complete physical exam prior to entry with proper immunization requirements.
    • Any student wishing to participate in Athletics at Dodd Middle School or Cheshire High School must have a yearly physical prior to that sport/year.
    • Free sports physicals are offered in August at Dodd for 8th grade boys and girls.
    • Free sports physicals are offered at Cheshire High School three (3) times per year ONLY for grades 9, 11, and 12 for boys and girls. (August, November, March)
