Welcome to Doolittle School

There are 535 students in grades 1 – 6 at Doolittle School. We have a teaching staff of over 40 and support staff, including a school psychologist, a full time Guidance Counselor, Speech Pathologist, Occupational Therapist, Instructional Assistants, a Literacy Support Team and a school Nurse. Our Media Technology team oversees circulation of a vast number of library materials, as well as 120 computers. Software upgrades and internet access are maintained and regularly available to students. We have seven Teacher Assistants who supervise children at lunch and lunch recess and four women who work in the kitchen preparing healthy meals each day. Mrs. Weirsman, Principal, Mrs. Grillo, Assistant Principal, and our wonderful office staff are here to help.

Students take part in leadership and community service at Doolittle School. Student Council members are elected by their peers and lead monthly Town Meetings involving the entire student body. Town Meeting themes are centered on Cheshire Public Schools Performance Standards. Respect for self, others and property sums up expectations for the Doolittle community. Many opportunities are provided for students to participate in service learning activities such as our coat drive, book drive, collection for the animal shelter, UNICEF and the American Cancer Society, to name a few.

Doolittle School is located on Cornwall Avenue, set back from the main road and surrounded by playing fields, playgrounds and woods. The grounds are enhanced by a Nature Trail and lovely plantings that were developed by two former students working on their Boy Scout Eagle badges. The school building surrounds a courtyard, which includes a pond, plantings and outdoor amphitheater. The amphitheater was constructed by a former student also working on his Eagle Scout badge. Thanks to recent efforts of our PTA our playgrounds have been renovated and include state-of-the-art equipment.

Doolittle staff is available to parents, by appointment, at any time. Call our office at 203-272-3549 to make an appointment or request a phone call. You can also reach us by email. Our building is open and classrooms are accessible from 8:00am. until 3:30pm. each day.
