Highland Elementary School a nationally recognized "Blue Ribbon School" has a complement of 910 students and their families, a teaching staff of 70, and a dedicated support staff of 40.
Meeting individual needs in a nurturing and supportive setting is a priority at Highland School. Flexible grouping within classrooms offers students an opportunity to learn through enrichment, reteaching, or remediation. We offer a wide range of special education services, including a program for multi-handicapped children. Our Developmental Guidance Program addresses the social and emotional needs of children through a skills-based curriculum as well as individual and small group interventions. A Collaborative Intervention Team comprised of teachers and administrators is commissioned to take extraordinary steps to address the complex needs of individual children.
Our 204,500 square foot facility is hidden from the busy center of town by acres of grounds, playing fields, and playgrounds surrounded completely by trees. The school has classrooms arranged in grade level pods off two central hallways. Movable walls and open space areas allow for flexibility. A large central courtyard provides space for outdoor reading or class meetings on a nice day. A satellite building houses two computer labs with 52 Dell computers. A nature center in a wooded area around a pond behind our school includes teaching stations and seating for outdoor learning. |
