Doolittle School serves grades one through six, offering a comprehensive academic program. Students in each grade receive two hours per day of language arts, one hour of math and approximately one hour of social studies or science. Curriculum in each area is designed by the district, aligned with Connecticut state standards, and consistently revised to meet the needs of students. Instruction is also provided in art, music, physical education, library, computer lab, and developmental guidance. Instrumental music is available to grade five and six students. The teaching/learning process is a primary focus at Doolittle School. All teachers use a variety of activities, assignments, and resources to foster learning for each and every student in their class. Various informal assessment techniques identify students’ reading level, writing ability, and math proficiency – students work in small group and whole group instructional arrangements. Leveled reading materials are selected based on student needs. Literacy support, a supplemental program for reading, is available to students who qualify. |
